Agriculture is an important industry in the Skagit Valley. More than 80 different crops are grown in the Skagit Valley, which is known to have some of the most productive agricultural soil in the world thanks to our mild, marine climate and favorable growing conditions.
Skagit agriculture is more than just what you see growing in a field. Research, innovation, soil science, supply chains, agri-tourism, land use, consumers, and much more go into this successful and sustainable industry. The Port of Skagit recognized the need to support this important industry and focused on working with partners to create “value-added” opportunities for local farmers and producers.
The Port of Skagit has a strong focus on Value-Added Agriculture and has invested significant resources in infrastructure and business recruitment to support the local agricultural industry and economy. The Port purchased 123 acres in 2018 along Peterson Road for future expansion of our value-added ag sector in our new Watershed Business Park.
